Youth charms people with it vigor and unrestraint, and also with the unlimited possibilities and dreams that it promises. With excellent skill and dense emotions, CHI Ming captures the young generation of contemporary China to which himself belongs. He probes into the unique and unsettle souls of the generation growing up in a capitalistic China which their parents would not have imagined, showing their self-confidence, boldness and wild desires.

CHI has inherited the artistic talent from his grand-father and father, who earned their livings and reputations by painting the portrait of Mao Zedong and movie posters respectively. Being the third generation of a family of painters, CHI is clearly aware of the freedom to express himself through his paint brush was not something that his grand-father or father could had enjoyed. Likewise, he is deeply aware that his generation is exceptionally blessed. He depicts his subjects in private spaces where they are not shy away from pursuing pleasures as well as dreams, while the naivety and fragility of these unruly young people are also implicated. His figurative paintings are like snapshots of life in contemporary China blended with a surrealistic touch.
