CHEN Hsia-yu 陳夏雨

Educated in Japan, CHEN Hsia-yu (1917¬¬-2000) became an important sculptor in Taiwan after being selected into the Japanese Imperial Salon three consecutive years since 1938, and subsequently received the honor of “permanent exemption from review” from the Salon. His works meld elements from Egyptian, Greek and Chinese Buddhist art, and exude the spirit of modern European and Japanese art. This exhibition highlights his sculptures that portray the classic beauty of Taiwanese women in the early 1900s.
